Subject/Title of Window: Suffer the Little Children (The Lyster Window)

Brief Description of Subject: This window is located in what was once the baptistery of the Church and now houses a columbarium. The subject "Suffer the Little Children" is covered in Mark 10: 13 - 15 (KJV).

"And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands around them, and blessed them."

With the exception of Christ, each of the figures depicted is based on photographs sent to the Franz Mayer Company of members of the Lyster family. The members posed as disciples have been identified --- the one on the right is the man memorialized, Dr. Henry Francis Lyster, and the one on his left is his father William Narcissus Lyster.

The window was donated by the family of Dr. Henry Francis Lyster.

Inscriptions: In memory of Henry Francis Le Hunte Lyster the beloved physician and the first friend of many little children.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
