Subject/Title of Window: Nativity

Brief Description of Subject: The Nativity Window is one of two great transept windows in the Cathedral. It presents all of the characters in the story of the birth of Jesus, as told in the biblical Books of Matthew and Luke. Mary with infant Jesus, Joseph, Shepherds and Magi; Heraldic angels overhead. Upper left of pictorial panel shows the star and Herod’s forbidding castle; Upper right a cypress tree foreshadowing the crucifixion. The entire scene is framed by ornate architectural canopies and surmounted by a magnificent rose.
