James holds in one hand the pilgrim's staff and in the other the sword of his martyrdom, while in the predella below is James on his missionary journeys through Spain. The shield contains James' symbol, a shell.

Luke carries the book and pen symbolic of his writings while on the book is his symbol, the bull. The shield in the canopy has the mortar and pestle, his symbol as a physician.

The shield in the canopy above Matthew has the mortar and pestle, the symbol of Luke as a physician. The shield in the canopy above Luke has a money bag and coins, the symbols of Matthew as a tax collector. The shields were mistakenly placed above the wrong saint.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
