Brief Description of Subject: Simon holds a saw a symbol of his martyrdom. In the background is the sun, pyramids and palms as well as the crossed oar and battle ax which are symbolic of his distant travels and his death. Beneath him is a fish impaled on a boat hook which represents him being a great fisher.
