Brief Description of Subject: One in a set of three windows located on the East wall of Nave. Learning depicts calipers measuring the Earth, an atom symbol, a rocket engine, steam engine, rocket, the first airplane, the first hot-air balloon, Noah’s ark, a submarine, and Chinese “stupa.” Most windows in the Alumni Memorial Chapel are sets of three on the same general topic with the same donor. This window is grouped with Creativity (L2b) and Aspiration (L2c). Water, air, fire and Earth are symbolized thus: Water-Noah’s Ark, atomic submarine Air-Montgolfier’s balloon, the Wright’s airplane, rocket ship Fire-Stephenson’s rocket engine, Watts’ Steam engine Earth-Atomic symbol.
