Window

Building Name: St. Albertus Church

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: Decorative

Brief Description of Subject: Window is the tympanum above the side door located on the gospel side transept. A copy of this window serves as the tympanum above the side door located on the epistle side transept.

Tracery plays a dominant role in this window. I believe this window is meant to be enjoyed as a decorative Christian window as opposed to having a particular meaning. In the circle there are two lenses that cross. To the outside of the lenses is seen grapes and grape leaves while to the inside is seen roses. In the center of their crossing is a budded cross and flowers whose stigma has three projections.

Height: ~5'

Width: 5'

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
