Building Name: Lincoln Community United Methodist Church

City: Ypsilanti

Subject/Title of Window: Covenant

Brief Description of Subject: One of five side windows who represent, together with the Clerestory window above the pulpit, “God is the Light of the World.” A rainbow stretching from the creation window into the Covenant window. This represents the rainbow that God set in the sky to celebrate the covenant made between God and Noah after their covenant. Rising up from the end of the rainbow is the pillar of fire and cloud that guided the Israelites through the wilderness toward the promised land. Towering up in the center of the window, amid thunder and lightning, is Mt. Sinai, which peaks at the top of the window. The light is on the top of the mountain, where the Ten Commandments were received, and it represents the presence of the Lord there, coming from above in the beam of white light. Among relevant passages: Genesis 9:12-13, Genesis 15, 17, & 18, Exodus 19:5, 16 & 18, Psalm 119:105.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
