Subject/Title of Window: The Red Christ

Brief Description of Subject: The Red Christ window is located in the lower level. It is situated in an alcove adjacent to one that has a Blue Christ window. The windows are essentially identical except for the colors of Christ's costume and the border. Also the Red Christ has a bit more detailing in the clouds.
 
Christ has two natures, a human and a divine. He is costumed here in red, the color of blood, symbolizing his divine nature. He is seen here in an orans pose. This pose for Christ has its origin in Leviticus 9:22, "Aaron [the first high priest] lifted up his hands toward the people, and blessed them. The green color in the border symbolizes rebirth, eternal life.
 
The clouds symbolize divine presence. This comes from Exodus 13:21, "And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way." The two pillars of fire at the top come from the remainder of that quote in Exodus, "and by night in a pillar of fire." The blue background represents heaven, since traditionally, heaven is up towards the sky which is blue.
