Building Name: All Saints Episcopal Church

Studio Name: Lamb (J. and R.) Co.

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: The Lamb of Mount Sion

Brief Description of Subject: Description of this window from the Lamb Studios:
"This balcony window is part of the series on the southern side of the nave.

This window continues with the great Vision of the Lamb seen on Mount Sion. This is described in Revelation 14:1 as follows: "And I looked, and lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written on their foreheads.

The inscription at the bottom is taken from the words of verse 3 where it speaks of the new song sung by the host of the faithful. Appropriate symbols are woven into the scene.

The Lamb is bearing the banner of the Resurrection. From the mountain top springs the four rivers of the Waters of Life. These continue around the lower part of the window. [From Revelation 22:1-2], the two trunked Tree of Life rises from either side of the River and bears twelve manners of fruit and the leaves 'which are for the Healing of the Nations'.

In the background are seen the Host of the 144,000 bearing harps and singing their song as is inscribed across the bottom.

In the upper part appears the symbol of the rainbow, also described in Revelation, together with the Alpha and Omega, while the five-pointed star of the Kingdom of Heaven, form the apex of the window."

The signature at the bottom of the window indicated the window was designed by Katharine Lamb Tait of the J.&R. Lamb Studios.

Note that in the sketch of this window by the artist, the church changed the Host of 144,000 from bearing palms to bearing harps. Also, in the sketch, the apex contains the Eye of God rather than the five-pointed star. On the north side of the balcony is the "Holy City" window which originally was to be part a series on the southern side of nave. Evidently the church decided to switch their locations and also switched those symbols.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
