Subject/Title of Window: Baptism

Brief Description of Subject: General information and description of sketch from Charles Connick Associates Job file #3261.
General Information:
"Baptism Theme. This is a Gothic church with a modern touch, the Rector has modern thought. This window must be a good one, and will be behind a new marble font and enhance it and form a composition and be a point of interest as we find in ancient churches. Fine detail and lots of symbolism is not desired. Architect [Lewis W. Simpson] does not want a red and blue window of the French style --- wants a window of modern spirit. Dr. Levering [Pastor] is strong for modern symbolism, and modern approaches to design. Wants something modern and stimulating."
Description:
We have the ... figure of Christ dominating the background, and a priest baptizing the child in the foreground, with the parents and God-parents at either side. We have succeeded in including the congregation in the panels at either side, with little ... figures of children in adoration of Our Lord near the top."
Signature of Maker at the bottom reads --- "Connick Associates Boston -- 1953."
This window was donated in memory of Ray E. Sturges Jr.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
