Window
Building Name: St. Mary Catholic ChurchCity: Royal Oak
Window Shape: 5 (gothic arched, 2 vertical sections)
Subject/Title of Window: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior Part 1
Brief Description of Subject: The three windows on the Epistle side of the sanctuary use lower case Greek letters to spell out "ixous," the Greek word for "fish."
This window features a chalice and host, symbols for the sacrament of Communion, and the Greek letter iota (i) which starts the spelling of "ixous."
Using the "i" (iota) from this window, the "x" (chi) and the "ⴱ" (theta) from the next window, and the "u" (upsilon) and "s" (sigma) from the last window, this forms an acrostic based on (i)esous (x)esous, (ⴱ)eau (u)ios, (s)atare --- Greek words for Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.
Height: 100"
Width: 46"

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
