Subject/Title of Window: Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives
Brief Description of Subject: Each of the six epistle side aisle windows illuminate a scene from the life of Jesus. This window's scene is taken from Jesus Praying on the Mount of Olives as found in Luke 22:39 - 46. After the Last Supper. Jesus went to the Mount of Olives bringing his disciples with him. Once there, he went off to pray alone.
Pictured here is verses 41 - 43, "Jesus knelt down, and prayed, 'Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done.' An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him." Below the kneeling Jesus are oak leaves --- the symbol of strength. By the bottom of the rock is an olive branch for the location this took place --- the Mount of Olives.
In the predella are instruments of the Passion, a lantern, and weapons --- a stave and a sword. These are found at the arrest of Jesus that occurred just after he had finished praying and joined his disciples.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
