Subject/Title of Window: The 3rd Station of the Cross, Jesus Falls For The First Time

Brief Description of Subject: This is the 3rd of 14 clerestory windows in the Church, seven on each side, which cover the Stations of the Cross. Traditionally at each stop there will be a time for meditation. For these windows the top section covers the station while the bottom section has a meditation for that station.

The third station is "Jesus falls for the first time." Jesus is pictured bent over with the cross on the ground. Above his figure is a dark cherry. This is a symbol for the blood Jesus will shed on the cross for our salvation.

The meditation for this station is "It was not the weight of the wood that caused this fall." Pictured is a thistle --- a thorny plant that symbolizes sorrow and can be used for the Crown of Thorns.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
