Subject/Title of Window: The 4th Station of the Cross, Jesus Meets His Blessed Mother
Brief Description of Subject: This is the 4th of 14 clerestory windows in the Church, seven on each side, which cover the Stations of the Cross. Traditionally at each stop there will be a time for meditation. For these windows the top section covers the station while the bottom section has a meditation for that station.
The fourth station is "Jesus meets his blessed Mother." Pictured is Jesus, bent over, clutching onto the cross, while his Mother's arms are in a pose of greeting. Above Jesus is a fleur-de-lis, a Marian symbol for het chastity.
The meditation for this station is, "How have I requited the love of such a mother." Pictured is a sword piercing a heart. This comes from Simeon's prophecy to Mary at Jesus' Presentation, "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too." (Luke 2:34 - 35).

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
