Subject/Title of Window: The 5th Station of the Cross, Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus to Carry His Cross
Brief Description of Subject: This is the 5th of 14 clerestory windows in the Church, seven on each side, which cover the Stations of the Cross. Traditionally at each stop there will be a time for meditation. For these windows the top section covers the station while the bottom section has a meditation for that station.
The 5th station is "Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus to carry His cross." Pictured is Jesus holding on to his cross with a helping hand from Simon. Above the scene is a red (color of blood) cross, representing Jesus' pain and suffering at the Crucifixion.
The meditation for this station is "Jesus you need my hands now." The picture is that of a green snake. One possible meaning of this symbol is its reference to Adam's Sin and the fall of man and man's redemption that will come by the crucifixion of Jesus.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
