Subject/Title of Window: Raising of Lazarus; Palm Sunday; A Sinful Woman Forgiven

Brief Description of Subject: This gospel side window consists of three scenes from the Gospels separated by geometrical and floral decorations. All quotes from the NKJV Bible.

Top Scene: Lazarus Raised From the Dead as found in John 11:1 - 44. In the town of Bethany lived the close friends of Jesus, Mary, her sister Martha and their brother Lazarus. When Lazarus got sick they sent for him. "Jesus ... said, 'This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified.' " Jesus later told the disciples, "Lazarus is dead." When Jesus finally arrived in Bethany and "came to the tomb ... Martha ... said to Him, 'Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead for four days.' Jesus said to her, 'Did I not say that if you believe you would see the glory of God.' Then they took away the stone, from the place the dead man was lying, ... He cried out with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth!' And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth, Jesus said to them, 'Loose him, and let him go.' "

Middle Scene: Palm Sunday, The Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem as found in John 12:12 - 15. "The next day a great multitude had come to the feast [Passover], when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out:

'Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord
The King of Israel!'

Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it, as it is written [Zechariah 9:9],

'Fear not, Daughter of Zion;
Behold, your King is coming,
Sitting on a donkey's colt.' "

Bottom Scene: A Sinful Woman Forgiven as found in Luke 7:36 - 50. A Pharisee invited Jesus to eat with him. "And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down. And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at his feet behind Him weeping; and began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil." The Pharisee was disturbed that he would allow a sinful woman to touch Him. Jesus pointed out that the Pharisee had not even given him water to wash his feet, and posed a question to him --- What if a man had two debtors, one owed a lot of money and the other very little, if he forgave both of their debts, which of the debtors would love him more? The Pharisee said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." Jesus then said to him..." ''her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she has loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.' Then He said to her, 'Your sins are forgiven.' "

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
