Brief Description of Subject: This is the first of three chancel windows that uses a symbol to represent a member of the Trinity.

In this window, God the Father is symbolized by a right hand. In Exodus, God was seen in a cloud that hid his majesty as "no man could behold and live," Exodus 33:20. This led to a prohibition of images of God, and the use of a hand to indicate God. In scriptures, the right hand is the hand of power, for example, Exodus 15:12, "Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in power."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
