Brief Description of Subject: Window designed to let light into the stairwell leading up to the choir loft.

The medallion at the top contains the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Devotion of the Immaculate Heart dates to the 11th Century. The FLAMING HEART symbolizes her burning love; the BAND OF ROSES around the heart symbolizes her purity. The SWORD THROUGH THE HEART refers to Simeon's prophecy at the Presentation Of Jesus in the Temple. Luke 2:24-35 --- Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, "This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too."

The image in the medallion at the bottom has been damaged to the point that it basically is no longer visible.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
