Subject/Title of Window: Immaculate Heart of Mary

Brief Description of Subject: "The Immaculate Heart of Mary", alternately known as "The Sacred Heart of Mary", is meant to portray her burning love of God. The earliest devotions to her Sacred Heart date from the time of St. John Eudes in the 17th Century.

In the center medallion of this rose window, located in the gospel side transept, is the Virgin Mary dressed in her traditional blue and white. Her exposed heart is seen with a flame on top (burning love) encircled by a band of roses (flower of love, and bright yellow rays which references Rev.12:1 where she is "clothed with the sun". Mary is holding lilies which symbolize her Immaculate Conception -- born without original sin.

Traditionally, as here, the Immaculate Heart of Mary window is located opposite a Sacred Heart of Jesus window.
