Brief Description of Subject: This is the 2nd in a series of 5 windows depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary.
The "Ascension" is the 2nd Glorious Mystery. Luke 24:50-51 "Then he led them as far as Bethany, raised his hands and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken to heaven." The Virgin Mary is in the center of the disciples looking up to Christ as he is going up to heaven -- at this point, only his feet can be seen.
The "Scourging at the Pillar" is the 2nd Sorrowful Mystery. Mark15:15 "Wishing to please the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified." The inscription around the head of Christ "INRI" are the first letters for the Latin words Pilate had put on the cross which translate to "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews."
The "Visitation" is the 2nd Joyous Mystery. Luke1:39:45 "At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah's home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and she was filled with the Holy Spirit." Behind Elizabeth is her husband Zechariah a priest at the Temple, and behind Mary is her husband Joseph with a flowering staff (chosen by God). At Elizabeth's feet is a dog, a symbol of fidelity.
Outside the medallions are found Christian symbols encased in a roundel, square, or triangle. The border is made up of a floral pattern using lilies and roses -- flowers associated with the Virgin Mary.
The makers signatures appears at the bottom right of the window.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
