Subject/Title of Window: Pelican Feeding Young With Own Blood
Brief Description of Subject: At one time it was believed that a pelican would open a wound on its chest with its beak to feed its own blood to its young to save them from starvation. From this belief arose the pelican as a symbol of Christ as he shed his blood for our salvation.
This is the seventh of a battery of 12 windows located along the wall of the Gospel side aisle. Comments from "Our Stained Glass Windows" by Aloys Frank Herman c.1970. These windows tell the progressive story of “Our Lord from his Resurrection to the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles”.
These windows were designed by Jonathan Edwards as a free lance job for Willet Hauser Architectural Glass and installed in 1967.
Jonathan Edwards worked for Celtic Studios as a designer and glass painter. He also worked freelance for other studios and taught at Swansea College in Wales until the 1990's. His work is found mostly in churches across south Wales but can also be found in Canada and the United States.
