Subject/Title of Window: Pentecost

Brief Description of Subject: Pentecost is covered in Acts 2:1-41. Pentecost was a Jewish feast that required adult males to come to Jerusalem 50 days after Passover. The Apostles and Disciples had assembled in a room in Jerusalem for Pentecost when they heard the roaring of a mighty windstorm and TONGUES OF FIRE SETTLED ON THEIR HEADS. Everyone was filled with the HOLY SPIRIT (seen in the form of a dove) and they began speaking in many languages.

Devout Jews (seen in the arches) that had heard the loud noise came running and were amazed to hear their own languages being spoken. Then PETER SPOKE TO THEM (Apostle in left panel) and told them that the one they had crucified was the Messiah. When they asked what should they do? He replied "repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the Lord for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT." Over 3000 were baptized that day and became believers.

This is the eleventh and twelfth of a battery of 12 windows located along the wall of the Gospel side aisle. Comments from "Our Stained Glass Windows" by Aloys Frank Herman c.1970. These windows tell the progressive story of “Our Lord from his Resurrection to the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles”.

These windows were designed by Jonathan Edwards as a free lance job for Willet Hauser Architectural Glass and installed in 1967.

Jonathan Edwards worked for Celtic Studios as a designer and glass painter. He also worked freelance for other studios and taught at Swansea College in Wales until the 1990's. His work is found mostly in churches across south Wales but can also be found in Canada and the United States.
