Subject/Title of Window: Sacred Heart of Mary

Brief Description of Subject: On the gospel side wall is a shrine dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This is the first of two windows located in that shrine.

This window depicts the Sacred Heart of Mary also known as the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her heart is seen with sword piercing it and flames on the top (burning love for her Son). The sword piercing the heart comes from the Presentation (Luke 2:21-28) where Simeon told Mary that "a sword will pierce your own soul too." Above the flames is seen Mary's flower, the lily, which symbolizes that she was born without original sin.

The window was designed by Marguerite Gaudin.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
