Studio Name: Willet Hauser Architectural Glass

City: Royal Oak

Window Shape: 2 (rectangle)

Subject/Title of Window: Jesus the Good Shepherd

Brief Description of Subject: This window is located in the Chapel and looks out to the Resurrection Garden. The scenes and quotes in this window are found in John 10:1 - 18 NIV, "The Shepherd and His Flock."

Top Scene: "Parable of the Shepherd" begins with the attributes of a good shepherd. They enter the sheep pen by the gate, while a thief will get in by a different way. The good shepherd knows his sheep and the sheep know him. The scene pictures a good shepherd.

Bottom Scene: The people did not understand that parable, so Jesus explained. "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved," Verse 9. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me --- just as the Father knows me and I know my Father --- and I lay down my life for the sheep," Verse 14 - 15. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life --- only to take it up again," Verse 17. The scene pictures Jesus as the Good Shepherd wearing the Crown of Thorns.

Inscription in the predella indicates that the window was given to the glory of God and in memory of Edward Robinson by his wife. The wife also had the inscription "Mizpah" placed just after the memorial inscription. A "mizpah" is a covenant between two people and is found in Genesis 31:49, "May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other," NIV

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
