Subject/Title of Window: Easter

Brief Description of Subject: In the Easter window appear white lillies, symbol of purity and everlasting life, an image closely connected to the resurection of Christ. The rising sun in a blaze of glory symbolizes Jesus's divinity. The image of the Sun is often used for the Son of God, the Light of the World. In the rising of the golden circle or sphere one picture the resurrection and life eternal, Christian imagination has taken a common creature with a wonderful life cycle and attached to it a spiritual meaning. Thus death is likened to the last triumphant stage in the story of the butterfly, when it emerges from the cocoon, flutters its wet wings in the sun, and soars with a new freedom into the friendly sky.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
