Subject/Title of Window: Boy Jesus in the Temple/Jesus in His Father's Workshop/Escape to Egypt

Brief Description of Subject: This window was designed for this parish's Gothic styled Church which opened in 1926. Subsequently the congregation needed a larger church and replaced it with a modern styled church which opened in 1957, moving the stained glass to the new Church.

This is the third in a series of ten windows, consisting of three scenes each, covering the life of Christ, and were placed in chronological order in the narthex. All of the borders on the scenes feature geometrical patterns alternating with small scenes that is some cases relate to the larger scene they border.

Top Scene: Boy Jesus in the Temple. Story found in Luke 2:41 - 50. The Holy Family went to Jerusalem for Passover. On their return trip, unbeknownst to his parents, Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. When they discovered he wasn't among friends and relatives, they went looking for him. The scene pictures Verse 46 and 47, "After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers," NIV.

Middle Scene: Jesus in his Father's Workshop. The Holy Family is seen in Joseph's carpentry shop. Jesus is helping his father while his mother is sewing.

Bottom Scene: The Escape to Egypt. Story found in Matthew 2:1 - 14. When Herod heard of the birth of the King of Israel, he searched for him in order to kill him. An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, and told him of Herod's plans and that they must go immediately to Egypt to escape Herod. The scene pictures Verse 14, "So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt," NIV.

According to Church records, this window was given in memory of some of the faithful departed and dedicated February 21, 1943.
