City: Redford

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: Margaret Alacoque's Vision of the Sacred Heart

Brief Description of Subject: Margaret Alacoque (1647-1690) was a member of the Order of Visitation of Mary. In her autobiography she related that Jesus had appeared to her and wanted a devotion to his Sacred Heart and revealed twelve benefits of that devotion. Her promotion of that devotion was instrumental in its spread around the world. Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque was canonized a saint in 1920.

The window is located in the Sacred Heart Chapel. In the canopy of these lights are flaming Sacred Hearts radiating light like a sun. In the scene below, with an angel watching over her, a humbled Margaret Alacoque, dressed in the habit of the Order of Visitation, is kneeling at the sight of a radiant Jesus standing on a cloud (vision). Christ is dressed in royal purple and red (human). The stigmata is visible on his hands and his exposed flaming Sacred Heart (love of humanity) is circumscribed with a Crown of Thorns (instrument of the Passion).

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
