Subject/Title of Window: Moses Receives the Ten Commandments
Brief Description of Subject: This narthex window, located in the stairway leading up to the choir loft, depicts Moses receiving the Ten Commandments. The entire story is covered in Exodus from Chapter 19 trough 34.
God tells Moses in three days he is to assemble the people at the mountain and he will appear. On the third day they heard a loud trumpet blast and the people were assembled. Another loud trumpet blast and God tells Moses to go to the top of Mount Sinai and he will speak to him. God speaks for a long time and when the Lord is finished speaking to Moses, he gives him two tablets with the Ten Commandments "etched by the finger of God".
In this rendition there is an angel sounding the trumpet which announces the presents of God. On the left tablet are the Roman numerals for 1-3 while the right tablet 4-10. This reflects the Catholic version of the Ten Commandments that the first three concern relationships with God while the last seven relationships with each other.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
