Window
Building Name: St. Mary's of Redford ChurchCity: Redford
Window Shape: 3 (arched)
Subject/Title of Window: Mother of Christ
Brief Description of Subject: The clerestory windows are designed to let light into the Church and all have the same design --- a wide border of stylized lilies and three medallions. The center medallion will contain a symbol for an avocation found in the Litany of Loreto. The avocation for this window is "Mother of Christ, Pray for us."
The center medallion of this window depicts the moon and sun surrounded by 12 stars. This symbolizes the woman, interpreted as Mary, in Revelation 12:1 "And a great sign appeared in heaven: A woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars."
The quote continues that this woman is the Mother of Christ, Revelation 12:2 - 5 "And being with child, she cried travailing in birth, and was in pain to be delivered ... and she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with an iron rod: and her son was taken up to God, and to his throne."

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
