Building Name: St. Mary's of Redford ChurchCity: Redford
Window Shape: 3 (arched)
Subject/Title of Window: Mother of Our Savior
Brief Description of Subject: The clerestory windows are designed to let light into the Church and all have the same design --- a wide border of stylized lilies and three medallions. The center medallion will contain a symbol for an avocation in the Litany of Loreto. The avocation symbolized in this medallion is "Mother of our Savior, Pray for us."
Pictured is a branch of blooming roses with the inscription "Virga Jesse" --- Rod of Jesse. This inscription is from Chapter 11 of Isaiah, which makes the prophecy that the Savior would be a descendant of Jesse --- "And there shall come forth a rod out of the roots of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of this root" (Isaiah 11:1 Douay-Rheims).
Mary's part in fulfilling that prophecy is expressed in the plainchant "Alleluia Virga Jessie Floriut," sung at Christmas time.
Alleluia
The rod of Jesse has blossomed
a virgin hath brought forth God and man:
God hath restored peace,
reconciling in himself the lowest with the highest.
Alleluia
Inscriptions: Virga Jesse

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
