Subject/Title of Window: St. Adalbert

Brief Description of Subject: The location of this window is in the chancel which traditionally is viewed as a place of honor.

Background: St. Adalbert (c.945 - 997) In Poland he goes by his baptismal name - "Wojciech". He was confirmed by the bishop of Magdeburg whose name was "Adalbert". In honor of this bishop he went by the name "Adalbert". Outside of Slavic languages there is no equivalent of the Christian name "Wojciech", so the non - Slavic languages use the name he assumed later in life "Adalbert". Wojciech became bishop of Prague and later the bishop of Gniezno. He was sent to convert Prussians to Christianity. After initial success, the Prussians martyred him. He is one of the Patron Saints of Poland.

Window description: St. Adalbert is costumed as a bishop with a crozier in his left hand and what appears to me as an aspergillum in his right.

Inscription: Donor's name at bottom not visible on this photograph.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
