Subject/Title of Window: Apocalypse

Brief Description of Subject: There are 6 rose windows in the nave, 3 on each side. The first on the gospel side is the Creation. This window is the last on the epistle side and is about the end of the world -- Apocalypse. The Apocalypse as described in Revelation occurred in 3 stages -- 7 seals, 7 trumpets, and finally 7 bowls (vials). The subject of this window is the first 6 seals. The first 4 seals are the coming of what are known collectively as the "4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse".

First Seal -- 10 o'clock -- BELLUM -- Conquered -- Rev. 6:1-2 "and behold a WHITE HORSE and he that sat on him had a BOW and a CROWN .... and he went forth conquering and to conquer." This is the antichrist.

Second Seal -- 2 o'clock -- PUGNAE -- War -- Rev 6:3-4 "and then went another HORSE RED .. to take peace away from the world, and they should kill one another, and there was given unto him a great SWORD.

3rd Seal -- 8 o'clock -- FAMES -- Famine -- Rev 6:5-6 " and lo a BLACK (blue on window) HORSE and he that sat on him had a pair of BALANCES". Synopsis and explanation of the rest -- he will bring severe inflation that will cause food prices to be unaffordable; this will cause famine to every one but the rich. Balances were uses to weigh food.

4th Seal -- 4 o'clock -- PESTIS -- Death -- Rev 6:7-8 "and behold a PALE HORSE: and he that sat on him was death." this horseman is shown as the grim reaper.

5th Seal -- 12 o'clock -- JUSTITIA -- Justice -- Rev 6:9-11 synopsis -- Those that had been martyred cry out for revenge -- justice as seen by scales.

6th Seal -- JUDICIUM -- Judgment -- Rev 6:12-17 synopsis -- disasters strike the earth and cause upheaval and collapse of society. The unrighteous try to hide but will be damned while the righteous will see God. Trumpets are seen announcing this Last Judgment.

Center: Rev 21:6 After the Last Judgment Jesus says "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega." Matt 25:31 When the Son of Man comes in His glory and all the angels with Him, then he will sit on His glorious throne. Symbols -- a shield with Alpha and Omega topped with a crown and surrounded by palms (triumph).
