Building Name: St. Mary Catholic Church

City: Royal Oak

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: Vessel of Honour

Brief Description of Subject: This clerestory window is one of 17 windows illuminating titles for the Virgin Mary found in the Litany of Loreto. The title pictured here is "Vessel of Honour."
Pictured is a trophy cup with the Greek letters "mu" and "theta" surrounded by a laurel wreath. The trophy and laurel wreath are both vessels that honor a victor. A possibility for the Greek letters is an acronym for the words "Meter Theiou" --- Mother of God.
The words "vessel of honor" appear in 2 Timothy 2:21 (Douay-Rheims), "A vessel unto honour, sanctified and prophetable to the Lord." The Blessed Virgin Mary is honored as the vessel through which God was made flesh.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
