Building Name: Christ Church Detroit

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 2 (rectangle)

Date of Window: 1881

Subject/Title of Window: Dove and Scroll

Brief Description of Subject: This window is in an area that once was the transept of the Chapel, however, with the alterations of 1903 the area was not suitable for a chapel. At some point a ceiling was added to provide a room above the sacristy, thus only the lower portion of the window is visible from the sacristy. The photograph only shows this lower part.

Pictured in the upper rectangle is a dove, a symbol for peace. In the lower rectangle is a scroll with an inscription taken from the Sermon on the Mount:

"Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8 (KJV)

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
