Subject/Title of Window: Ascension

Brief Description of Subject: Each sacristy window contains symbols of the most important days celebrated throughout the liturgical year starting with Advent. This is the 11th  window in this series and contains symbols for the Ascension. The Ascension is celebrated on the 40th day of Easter and is covered in Acts 1:6-11; short synopsis -- Jesus ascends bodily into heaven while the apostles look on. Symbols used in this window include stars (heaven),a gold ribbon (divinity), a red ribbon (earth, human) leading upward to a blue (heaven) encirclement of the top of a Tau - Rho cross. Tau is a Greek letter shaped like a "T" and Rho is a Greek letter shaped like a "P". Placing the Rho on top of the Tau forms a cross with the loop of the Rho forming a head on the cross -- this is one of the oldest symbols for the crucifixion.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
