Subject/Title of Window: Red Rose and IHS

Brief Description of Subject: This decorative aisle window was designed to let light into the Church. It is shaped like a lit candle symbolizing Jesus --- "I am the light of the world" John 8:12. The window features two shields with symbols.

Symbols used:
Red Rose:Symbol for Christ shedding His blood for our salvation.

IHS: The New Testament was originally written in Greek, so that the earliest Christian symbols have their basis in the Greek language. The Greek spelling of their word for Jesus is "iota, eta, sigma, omicron, upsilon,sigma." Transliterated into the Latin alphabet this becomes "IHSOYS." Thus "IHS" is a Christogram for "Jesus."
