Subject/Title of Window: Fleur-de-lis

Brief Description of Subject: This decorative aisle window was designed to let light into the Church. It is in the shape of a lit candle symbolizing Jesus --- "I am the light of the world," John 8:12. The window has a shield with a fleur-de-lis (flower of the lily).

The white lily is the symbol of purity and is an attribute of the Virgin Mary. In art, "fleur-de-lis" refers to a stylized lily as seen in this window. It continues its close association with the Virgin Mary but with its three distinct parts can also symbolize the Holy Trinity.
