Brief Description of Subject: From the booklet, "First United Methodist Church, Grand Ledge, Michigan. Walking Tour Guide of the Stained Glass Windows," by C. Bernard Johnson (1994).
The window given by Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Smith is located on the Scott Street side above the entrance to the sanctuary. Bryon was born in 1849 in Fairfield, Ohio and married Miss Anna E. Lanning of St. Johns in 1872. They were the parents of three sons and one daughter. Bryon lived 26 years in Grand Ledge, passing away in 1914. Byron's occupation was listed as laborer. Anna lived until 1931, she died at the age of 81 years. They are both buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

"COME UNTO ME ALL YE THAT LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST." This scripture text comes from MATTHEW CHAPTER 11, VERSE 28. The understanding is that Jesus is the burden bearer and we may take our burdens to him.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
