1ST-2ND GRADE CLASSROOM
St. John is called the beloved disciple and often depicted at the last supper resting upon the Lord's shoulder. He was present at the crucifixion and from the cross Jesus asked his special disciple, John, to adopt his blessed mother.

The actual symbol of a chalice with a serpent comes from Christian tradition. St. John was one of the great missionaries of the church and was hated by many for his outspoken love of Christ. On one occassion he was invited to meal. Unknown to him he was given a chalice of wine raced with poisonous venom. Jesus appeared and warned him of the danger. However, He is supposed to have made the sign of the cross over the chalice, and the poison escaped in the form of a serpent.
