Brief Description of Subject: This window celebrates the life of Rev. William Donnelly. William Donnelly was born January 27, 1808 in New Germantown, Pennsylvania. He began preaching in the Methodist church in 1838. From 1845-1854 he was also a school teacher. In 1854 he moved to Michigan and joined the Detroit Conference of the Methodist church. He served all over the state until his retirement in Alpena in 1877 where he built a church and served as the pastor. Rev. Donnelly was well respected by the whole community. Every one called him "Father Donnelly", both Protestant and Catholic. The Irish and French lumber jacks when they met him on the street would take off their hats to him as they did to their priest. In 1883, a new church was built where they included a stained glass window in his honor. He died on December 22, 1886.

In 1969, the church was torn down. This stained glass windows was purchased and moved to a private home.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
