Brief Description of Subject: In the bottom portion of the window is St. Peter holding an urn who is drawing the name of Juda’s replacement from the urn.  The other two figures are the candidates, Joseph Barsabbas in red and Matthias in blue.  The center portion of the window depicts St. Matthias, who is wearing a purple garment and is in a preacher’s pose, carrying a battle axe. He is also accompanied by four angels.  In the top portion of the window, a hand, wearing the same color as Matthias’s garment, is grasping a knife.  A knife is a universal sign of violence and the red field symbolizes martyrdom.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
