Building Name: St. Albertus Church

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Date of Window: 1885

Subject/Title of Window: St. Henry

Brief Description of Subject: Inside a quatrefoil at the top of the window is a medallion that contains symbols reflecting the donor's profession as a bishop --- MITER, CROZIER, and PROCESSIONAL CROSS.

St. Henry (973 - 1024) became emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. He established the diocese of Bamberg and built its Cathedral. In this window Henry is costumed as an emperor in battle dress and is holding a model of the Bamberg Cathedral. Ironically, for a window in a Polish Catholic Church, he led a series of battles against the Duchy of Poland.

The donor's full name is Caspar Henry Borgess and he used St. Henry as his Patron Saint. Opposite this window in the chancel is the Dominic window donated by Dominic Kolasinski -- Dominic was his Patron Saint.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
