Building Name: St. Josaphat Church

Studio Name: Detroit Stained Glass Works, The

City: Detroit

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: Apostle

Brief Description of Subject: Note: the Church at some time in the past put a plaque under the window identifying it as the apostle "Philip". Philip's attributes are loaves and fishes, tau symbol and basket, cross and carpenter's square, patriarchal cross and spear, long staff and spear, tau cross and book, dragon, and stones. I don't see any of these here. I do see an axe. An axe is associated with Simon, Matthew (usually a halberd), and Matthias (usually a halberd).

Window description: An apostle with a book in his right hand symbolizing he preached the Word of God. In his left hand is an axe -- instrument of his martyrdom.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
