Brief Description of Subject: The figures in attitudes of prayer and the angel bearing incense indicate the subject of the window. Incense has long been a symbol of sacrifice and prayer. It is consumed as it is used and the sweet smell of smoke ascends to heaven. The medallion below shows a pelican feeding its young by its own blood. The ancients, believing that this was the pelican’s nature, saw in this figure of the sacrament of Holy Communion, in which the Son of God feeds us through His Blood.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
