Subject/Title of Window: Chancel Apse

Brief Description of Subject: The Sanctuary’s basic architectural shape is an inverted ark, complete with structural ribs extending from the floor and across the entire arched ceiling. Noah’s ark is a traditional reference to the grace of God. Used in church architecture, the inverted ark can be seen as a symbol of salvation that provides a place of rest and prayer. Consistent with the ark imagery, the angled end of the apse can be interpreted as the prow. The dramatic soaring space of the chancel’s apse features the church’s most beautiful and distinctive windows. The windows meet at an angle behind the altar and choir. Within this colorful array are two striking horizontal bands of red. Visually they emphasize a Cross and Dove that are suspended between the red.
