Registering windows in the Michigan Stained Glass Census
We appreciate your interest in helping with the Michigan Stained Glass Census.
Here is how you can help.
1. If you know of a building that should be registered, look first at the lists of Registered Buildings and Windows to see whether or not they have already been registered. If the buildings or windows are not listed at all or if census status is listed as “Incomplete” then we welcome your volunteer effort to register or complete the census. There are two ways to do this.
a. You could simply alert us to the existence of an unregistered building by filling out and submitting to us our online Preliminary Survey Form. You can also print out a downloadable copy of the form and fill it out and send it to us as an electronic attachment to include(basepath.'includes/email_address.php');?> or as a hard copy to the mailing address listed below.
b. Even better, you can become a Volunteer Census Taker and register the buildings and windows yourself!
First step is to send an email to the MSGC office telling them the name and location of the building and windows you would like to finish registering (if it has an incomplete census status) or to start registering. Staff will then be able to let you know if anyone else is currently working on the building and if there is already any partial documentation on the building or windows.
Second step is to read the online instructions and download the forms. If you plan to submit digital images of your windows, please read our Tips for Submitting Digital Photography of your Stained Glass Windows.
Last step is to mail completed forms and any photos or ephemera to:
Michigan Stained Glass Census
Michigan State University Museum
West Circle Drive
East Lansing, MI 48824-1045
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email us at donald20@msu.edu .
*NOTE: If you are unable to download the forms, simply contact donald20@msu.edu and give us your name and mailing address and we will be happy to send them to you.
