The medallion in the center uses the main attribute for the gospel writer Luke -- a winged ox. This symbol comes from Ezekiel 1:5-14 where there appears a creature with 4 wings and 4 faces -- a human, an ox, a lion, and an eagle, likewise in Rev. 4:5-8 four living winged creatures surround the throne -- a human, an ox, a lion, and an eagle. Early Christianity matched these with the four Evangelists. Luke became the WINGED OX since in the Old Testament oxen were used in sacrifices and Luke's gospel begins with the sacrifice of Zacharias.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
