Brief Description of Subject: The main scene features David playing his harp accompanied by four choristers. The inscription is from Psalm 95:1 (KJV) --- "O come, LET US SING UNTO THE LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."
The scene at the top is taken from 1 Samuel 17, David's fight with Goliath. It depicts verse 51 (KJV) --- "David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine's sword and drew it from its sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword."
The scene at the bottom is taken from 1 Samuel 18:1-5, David and Jonathan's friendship. It depicts verse 4 (KJV) --- And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David".
