Building Name: Williamston United Methodist Church

City: Williamston

Window Shape: 3 (arched)

Subject/Title of Window: Ornamental

Brief Description of Subject: The flowers are abstract representations with pleasing forms and colors. Some scrolls seem to represent music.

The top emblem with cross and words “Look up and lift up” may be Epworth League imagery. The Epworth League apparently raised the money for this window. This is a symbol of Christ’s sacrifice, atonement, salvation and our redemption through Christ. Also words given to Christ for our lives.

The left bottom Emblem window with an open Holy Bible represents the authority of the Bible for truth and the basis of the Christian faith.

The right bottom Emblem window depicts an anchor, an early symbol of hope and steadfastness. It rests on the Epistle to the Hebrews, 6, 18-19 which refers to the everlasting virtue of god’s counsel in these words, ‘with hope we have a sure and steadfast anchor of the sour, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain where Jesus has gone”

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.

All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.

If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
