Window
Building Name: St. Josaphat ChurchStudio Name: Detroit Stained Glass Works, The
City: Detroit
Window Shape: 3 (arched)
Subject/Title of Window: Tulip Window
Brief Description of Subject: Non - figural clerestory window which uses a flower motif with the donor's name in the shield at the bottom. To me at least, the flower in the medallion at the top looks like a tulip. Tulips are a harbinger of Easter hence symbolize eternal life through the resurrection.
These are clerestory windows. There were originally 20 such windows however 2 were completely totaled and replaced with glass from the local hardware store -- not stained glass.
Inscription: Ofiarowal Mikolai i Wojciech Kosmowski. Translation from Polish: Donated by Nicholas and Albert Kosmowski.

The MSGC is a constantly evolving database. Not all the data that has been collected by volunteers has been sorted and entered. Not every building has been completely documented.
All images in the Index are either born-digital photographs of windows or buildings or are scans of slides, prints, or other published sources. These images have been provided by volunteers and the quality of the material varies widely.
If you have any questions, additions or corrections, or think you can provide better images and are willing to share them, please contact donald20@msu.edu
